Mobile App Development Trends for 2016

A Prediction on How App Development Will Shape Up in the Coming Year

Dec 11, 2015

The year 2015 is almost out and the next year will come all too soon. This year has seen much progress in the mobile and wearable devices industry; bringing with it a veritable boom in the app development industry as well. Mobile users are increasingly depending on their apps to do things for them. Everything from booking movie tickets to ordering food to shopping to banking and payment are going the mobile way. Things are expected to move forward much more rapidly in the coming few years – experts expect that mCommerce sales in the US alone will cross 25 percent of the total retail sales by the year 2018.

Mobile has touched all aspects of our life, including and most importantly, the enterprise sector as well. This trend has given a further boost to apps and app development. Listed below are some predictions about mobile app development for the coming year:

1
Security is Most Important

This year has seen immense incidents of hack attacks and compromised user security. The Apple App Store, which is perceived as being one of the most secure app marketplaces, experienced a major attack just a few months back. Add to that, Windows 10 users raised worries about security and privacy.

This issue of security will be more vital than ever before and app developers will have to do their very best to ensure app security. Google is already working on strengthening its next mobile OS release, Android 6.0 Marshmallow. With users storing sensitive and personally identifiable information on their mobile phones, developers will have to work on sealing all the potential gaps in security.

2
Enterprise Apps Grow Further

The demand for enterprise apps has registered a steep rise this year – this trend is likely to grow much further in 2016. The major OS’, Android and iOS, are now keenly targeting enterprise users.

Creating apps for enterprise has proved to be highly beneficial for developers as well – this is much more profitable for them than creating consumer apps. Industry experts aver that nearly 35 percent of the largest companies will work with their own mobile app development platforms by the end of 2016.

Apps Use Cloud Technology

Cloud computing has entered every conceivable field – that is true of app development as well. This trend is likely to continue and evolve further in the coming years. The cloud has proved to be immensely beneficial to developers. This technology helps them keep their actual app size small, deploying major parts of their apps to the cloud. Besides, it helps them create apps, which will be compatible with multiple mobile devices.

The cloud is good for users as well, as they can seamlessly sync their apps across a vast range of devices and OS’.

IoT Comes to the Fore

With the variety of wearables and other smart devices coming into the market this year, the Internet of Things (IoT) has come to the absolute fore. This trend is expected to take app development to the next level; thereby resulting in a bevy of new and interesting apps, which will change the very way we look at mobile.

Google made a big noise about its wearable, Glass. However, that did not enter the arena yet. Nevertheless, devices such as the Apple Watch and the entire Galaxy Gear line go to prove that wearables are the future of computing. Accordingly, several business and other establishments, including financial and educational institutions, are preparing to tackle the rising BYOD and WYOD movement.
