How To Fix STOP 0x00000016 Errors

Note: The STOP 0x00000016 STOP code is rare so there's little troubleshooting information available that's specific to the error.

However, since most STOP errors have similar causes, there are some basic troubleshooting steps to help fix STOP 0x00000016 issues:

  1. Restart your computer if you haven't already done so.

The STOP 0x00000016 blue screen error may not occur again after rebooting.

  1. Update to the latest version of Google Chrome if you're using that browser. The 0x00000016 BSOD can be caused by installing certain previous versions of the Chrome browser on some computers. Updating to the latest version corrects that issue.

If you already have Chrome installed, instead of downloading and installing it again manually, you can try updating it from the menu. This is done in Google Chrome through the Help > About Google Chrome menu.

If you're going to reinstall Google Chrome using the link above, I suggest first uninstalling it. Making sure the program is completely removed first can help ensure a smooth reinstall.

  2. Uninstall Avast using their avastclear tool, assuming of course you're using Avast's antimalware tools. The 0x16 BSOD has been known to occur due to issues with Windows updates and the presence of the Avast software.

  3. Perform basic STOP error troubleshooting. These extensive troubleshooting steps aren't specific to the STOP 0x00000016 error but since most STOP errors are so similar, they should help resolve it.
