What Is an ET File?

How to Open, Edit, and Convert ET Files

ET Files
ET Files.

A file with the ET file extension is a Kingsoft Spreadsheets file or WPS Spreadsheets Workbook file, both of which are created with a spreadsheet program from Kingsoft Software.

Much like Microsoft's XLSX format, ET files support charts and formulas, and store data in rows and columns of cells. ETT files are similar but are template files used to create multiple similar .ET files.

The Easiteach software also uses ET files, but as Easiteach Lesson files for storing animations, images, text, and other teaching resources.

Some ET files may instead be ETwin Electrodos de Tierra Project Data files used with a program that measures Transformation Center installations.

How to Open an ET File

ET files that are Kingsoft Spreadsheets files can be opened with that program as well as the free WPS Spreadsheets. You'll have to convert the ET file if you want to use it in Microsoft Excel or some other spreadsheet program. Skip down to the next section to learn how.

Tip: ET files can be built from scratch like any other custom spreadsheet, but you can also use the spreadsheet programs from above to make ET files from a pre-built template like for calendars, to-do lists, budgets, invoices, and other business or personal uses.

Some ET files might be encrypted with a program like WPS Spreadsheets; you have to know the password for those types of ET files before you can open and edit them. However, it might be possible to open the encrypted spreadsheet if you convert the ET file to a supported format that can be used with a free Excel password cracker.

Easiteach Lesson files are opened using RM Education's Easiteach software. They also have Easiteach Next Generation Lite but it can only open other related files like ETNG, ETNT, and ETTE files.

ETwin Electrodos de Tierra opens ET files that are used by that program. The website is in Spanish but you can use this English translation to read the text.

Note: EST files share a couple of the same file extension letters as ET files, but they don't have anything to do with each other. EST files are either Streets & Tips Map files or Construction Cost Estimate files. The same is true with ETL (Microsoft Event Trace Log) and ETA (Google Earth Placemark) files.

If you find that an application on your PC does try to open the ET file but it's the wrong application or if you would rather have another installed program open ET files, see my How to Change the Default Program for a Specific File Extension guide for making that change in Windows.

How to Convert an ET File

ET spreadsheet files can be converted to XLSX and XLS using Kingsoft Spreadsheets or WPS Spreadsheets. Just open the file in the program you want to use, and find the Save menu to select an Excel format to convert it to.

You can also convert the ET file to PDF, HTML, CSV, and other similar text formats using the programs from above.

If any of the ET files that belong to the other programs mentioned above can be converted, it's most likely done through the same software that can open it, similar to how Kingsoft Spreadsheets converts files.
